The National Apprenticeship Service Seminar with David Smale – November 2011 where David spoke about the rise in the numbers of apprenticeships available and the government’s promise to cut red tape as an incentive to employers and the benefits that apprentices can bring to the workplace.  The event was kindly hosted by Pearson.

The UKCES Seminar with Michael Davis, Chief Executive – September 2011 focused on the changes taking place within the agency.  These included a 40% cut in budget, a new Chairman and Chief Executive and a change in focus and a new mission “to work with and through partners to secure a greater commitment to invest in the skills of people, in order to drive enterprise, jobs and growth”.  This was an insightful seminar kindly hosted by City & Guilds.

The New National Curriculum, a seminar with Sir David Bell, Permanent Secretary, Department for Education – June 2011.  In January this year, Education Secretary Michael Gove announced a major review of the primary and secondary National Curriculum (NC), with the intention of slimming it down to reflect the “body of essential knowledge in key subjects”. This FEdS seminar  gave a privileged insight into work in progress, and an opportunity to discuss what the curriculum will be in the future and was kindly hosted by Microsoft.

Opportunities in Future Funding?  A seminar with Goeff Russell, CEO of the Skills Funding Agency – May 2011.  In this fascinating seminar, Geoff gave us a helpful insight into the political philosophy underlying radical reforms to the English skills system, and how the Skills Funding Agency is going about implementing them.  Held at Gabbitas

The All-Age Careers Service – An Opportunity for Lifelong Development & Growth? - March 2011.  Graciously hosted by BT at BT Centre, this conference brought together leading thinkers in CEIAG including Dame Ruth Silver, Dr Deirdre Hughes, MT Rainey, Professor Jenny Bimrose and many others. It epitomised what FEdS is all about: bringing together education, business and government to think creatively and work collaboratively.
